The first white settler to the Town of Highland was a French Indian Trader, by the name of Brisbois.
Mining - as early as 1828, large quantities of lead were found in the Town of Highland. The first "diggings" was named for trader Brisbois 1 mile west of the Village of Highland. Mining was the primary industry of the region up to 1844.
Farming - The first farm in the town was opened about 1836 or 1837, by Mr. Potts, in the south part the town He had one of the first orchards in Iowa county.
