Nestled between the hills, this spring fed lake is a local treasure. Boasting a 220 acre lake, boat landing and campground and surrounded by public DNR lands, this park shouldn't be missed!

Big Springs

Blackhawk Lake Recreation Area

Big Springs Creek is named for the natural spring that pours from the hillside of a small patch of public property. Locals claim that the springs could once be heard miles away in the Village of Highland.  The Creek is considered a Class 1 and Class 2 Trout Stream and is surrounded by DNR lands.

Blackhawk Lake Recreation Area

Union Valley School

The Driftless Region is famous for its limestone rock formations and the Town of Highland lays claim to a few of their own.  Head for a drive and try to spy Pompey's Pillar or Maiden Rock (aka Buschey Rock).  Formations are located on private property and landowner permission is required.

Union Valley School

The Union Valley school house is a historic one-room schoolhouse located at County Rd Q & Plank Rd.  It was part of the rural school system that served the area before consolidation.   The Union Valley School is maintained by the Highland Area Historical Society.
